2009 Oil and Pastel Portrait fees
8x10 = $300 Above prices reflect the fees of one subject with simple background and clothing. Complex backgrounds will be 20% more. Additional subjects in the same portrait will be discounted 30% of original price. Pets based upon size and complexity but will generally follow the cost of a commissioned pet portrait. A non-refundable deposit of 20% is due upon commission to hold your place and price. If for some reason I am unable to do your portrait, I would return your deposit. Prices subject to change without notice. Currently, completion of your portrait can be expected 3-6 months once the reference photo has been selected. Once the portrait is completed, I am happy to assist you in having the portrait framed. Together we will decide the most appropriate method of delivery. Fees do not include travel, framing, shipping or sales tax.
Procedure
Most of the portraits are done from photo resources. I prefer to take my own references. During this photo session I will take between 1-200 shots and spend time observing the subject to get a feel for the personality of the individual. After I have had time to review the photos, I will work together with you to choose the perfect pose and expression. Occasionally it is necessary to use photos you have on hand or to have another photographer take the photos. When this is the case, I will work closely with you and or the photographer to ensure we obtain the best possible reference for your portrait.
Once we have selected the reference, the size and medium can be determined. This selection process will indicate the price of the portrait. When I am close to completion, I will ask you to give input on the painting so that any adjustments may be made to assure a satisfactory likeness. This will be done in person for those who are local, and via email proofs, or sometimes skype with out of town clients.
